Calvin Haynes and Taft Has No Answers In Big Loss To Artesia Daily News
The Taft of Woodland Hills boys' basketball team, ranked second by the Daily News, proved to be no match for host Artesia, which is ranked fourth in the nation by MaxPreps.com, in a 64-40 loss Saturday in the California Hoop Challenge. "I guess you can say (Artesia) is really good," Taft head coach Derrick Taylor said. "If we play them 10 times we will lose 10 times." Calvin Haynes and Larry Drew led Taft with just eight points as the Toreadores were outplayed from the start. "This is the first time I have actually felt helpless as a coach," Taylor said. "We get this false sense of insecurity when we go 'over the hill' and teams like this prey off of it. Sophomore Malik Story scored a game-high 13 points for Pioneers (18-1) and teammate James Harden scored 12. "This was the most embarrassing loss we have ever had," said Taylor . "But we're young and will get better."
