Calvin Haynes Scores Big
Taft 57, Cleveland 43: Calvin Haynes and Larry Drew Jr. each scored 16 points to lead visiting Taft of Woodland Hills to the West Valley League victory over Cleveland of Reseda. With the victory, Taft completes an undefeated run through league, winning its seventh consecutive title. Four of those titles were shared titles, including three with Cleveland. "It doesn't matter what the records are. Taft-Cleveland is like the Valley's version of USC-UCLA," Taft coach Derrick Taylor said. "Both teams played like that tonight. Taft (20-5, 10-0) is hoping for a top-four seed at this morning's City Section playoff meeting. Senior guard Calvin Haynes said he's hoping for the second seed behind Fairfax of Hollywood. "We're hoping for the No. 2 seed so we can get three home games in the playoffs," Calvin Haynes said. "But we'll be happy with 2, 3 or 4." Asked where he thought his team was in terms of development, Calvin Haynes said: "We're young, but I think we've matured a lot this year. Defensively, we're playing great. But offensively, we need to pick it up." Corey Duncan led Cleveland with a game-high 17 points. Deandre Myles had 10. - Ramona Shelburne
