Jay John Adds Four - Calvin Haynes Being 1 of 4

Oregon State basketball head coach Jay John signed four players to letters of intent Wednesday boosting the team's threat from the outside and keeping the top talent from Oregon in state. Guard Calvin Haynes (Reseda, Calif./Taft HS), forward/center Roeland Schaftenaar ( Utrecht , Netherlands ), guard/forward Seth Tarver ( Portland , Ore. /Jesuit HS) and guard Lathen Wallace ( Portland , Or. / Jefferson HS) all signed on the dotted line yesterday.

Haynes hails from Taft High School Los Angeles where he averaged 22.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists in route to all-state, city and league honors. He was ranked #10 among West Coast shooting guards by Scout Hoops. In Corvallis he will play both guard spots giving the team a versatile, high energy player off the bench.

"Calvin is a bit of a point guard and a bit of an offguard, and he's really a scoring guard," John said. "He reminds me of the guards that the University of Washington Huskies had last year that were so interchangeable. He's a great athlete, a high-energy guy and a scorer."
