Calvin Haynes & SKS Prep Team Sweeps Weekend Games The South Kent School Prep basketball team had an action-packed weekend with three games back-to-back and all were at local venues. The Cardinal won all its matches to put the team's season record at 11-5. The highlight of the weekend was the home game against Mount Zion Christian Academy Saturday. SKS won, 123-121 in a double overtime. "It was the greatest game ever played in our gym," said Coach Raphael Chillious. "We made some really big plays down the stretch." South Kent was down at the end of regulation play and David Hicks ran a play that tied it up. In the second overtime, Hicks was again given the ball but passed it to Kiernan Ramsey who tipped it in. Mark Lyon was top scorer with 29 points, followed by Mathew Bryan-Amaning with 27. Hicks had 23 points and Isaiah Thomas had 20 points and nine assists. Calvin Haynes had 16 points. Friday's match against Our Savior New American at O'Neill Center in Danbury was played during the News-Times Tip-Off Classic. SKS won, 99-72. The tournament organizers requested South Kent play as a draw to bring in more spectators. Coach Raphael Chillious chose to give his starters a rest much of the game, which allowed playing time for those who haven't had many game minutes so far. Kiernan Ramsey was the top scorer with 18 points and David Hicks had 14 points. Kene Obi played the most so far this season, in for half the game and the coach said he played well. Peter Schroeder also saw a lot of game time. During Sunday's rematch against Mt. Zion, South Kent won it handily, 95-85. The game was played at Shepaug Regional High School in Washington as a fundraiser for the Shepaug Basketball Association. Top scorer during the game was Isaiah Thomas with 21 points. Christian Morris lodged 17 points, followed by Mark Lyons with 15 and Mathew Bryan with 13. Calvin Haynes scored 11 points
